Satpura’s name derives from the Satpura mountain range. In Sanskrit, Sat means seven and Pura means mountains
The park was discovered by Captain James Forsyth in 1862 while he was searching for Tantya Tope – an Indian freedom fighter
The Satpura National Park comprises three protected areas, Satpura National Park, Bori Wildlife Sanctuary, and Pachmarhi Sanctuary
The Indian Giant Squirrel is the mascot of Satpura National Park
After local extinction, Barasinghas from Kanha were translocated to Satpura and have now successfully re-established their presence in the park
It has been shortlisted by UNESCO as a potential World Heritage Site
